What’s New with the Construction?
January 1, 2008 Update
In December 2007, the
parking lot was dug up once again, for the relocation of the gas line. This will
not be the last time it is dug up, because the water line also needs
to be installed.
According to the schedule,
the first thing to happen will be the demolition of the little house, in
order to create a staging area. A road for construction will be built:
to do so, the playground will be temporarily removed and reinstalled once the building is finished.
Our contractor, Scott Long, is also looking at the possibility of constructing
the lower parking lot at the beginning of the project, so we gain 75 more parking spaces.
This has been a very long process, and we all
thought the building would be finished by now. Nevertheless, we are moving ahead, and if everything goes as planned, the
bulldozers should be here in March.
November 15, 2007 Update
When will construction begin? Good question. Hopefully by
the time you read this you will have already seen the big construction
equipment on our property. If not, we are really close to that
happening. In the meantime, the telephone cables have been
relocated and the electric and gas lines are in the process of being moved.
October 2007 Update
If you were at Olam Tikvah for the holidays last month, you
saw that the parking lot was torn up. In order for the telephone
company to supply us with new telephone lines, they had to lay
a conduit so they could snake the cable through the parking lot
to the building. Also the electric company used a mole to make
the connection to the transformer now in the front. The relocation of the electric and telephone lines were in preparation for the
building expansion to begin in November.
The first thing to happen will be the creation of a construction staging area, where the playground is currently located. The
playground equipment will be removed and stored for the
duration of the project; it will be returned to the same location
once the building is complete.
After the land has been marked and surveyed, heavy
equipment will roll in for tree removal and to prepare the land for
the actual building. The builder will fence in the staging area
and construction site. As the building progresses, I know
everyone will want to know what is happening. But because it
will become a hard-hat area and we do not want anyone getting
hurt, we ask you not to trespass into the area. We also ask that
you monitor your children during construction, especially on the
weekends, when there will be no supervisors around.
On an exciting note, the builder has assured us that once
the building has its roof, we can arrange hard-hat tours. The change has been a long time in coming, and I know we
are all looking forward to the new social hall, youth and school
wing and library. If you have any questions concerning the
construction, please feel free to contact Rachelle Palley.
