Why
do we have a Capital Campaign?
In 2004, then-president Susan Kristol wrote,
"It's up to us now." She went on to explain: "To accomplish our mission as
a synagogue, we need more parking, a larger lobby, places for adults to meet and
learn, space for a library and a youth lounge, a larger social hall, more
restrooms, and above all, functional classrooms for our religious school and
preschool, with soundproof walls and real windows. ... It is our turn to carry
on the work of our generous founding families and to do something important for
ourselves and future generations. ...Everyone will be asked to contribute at the
level that is right for them. All gifts will be appropriately acknowledged and
valued." Follow our progress on our
Building page.
Barbara Holleb, of our Capital Campaign Steering
Committee, wrote eloquently, "Olam Tikvah has been there for us, through
the collective seasons of our lives. It is now time for us to embrace this
season of growth and commit as much as we can to the building of more sacred
space."
We have a Capital Campaign so that
everyone can participate in creating the future of Olam Tikvah.
Who will contribute?
Every synagogue family will be asked to make a
voluntary contribution, to the fullest extent of its capability. Before being
asked to give, members will be given the opportunity to learn, in detail, about
the need, the project and the benefits of a successful fundraising effort.
How can I give?
Donors may make pledges of one-time gifts, or
spread out the payment of a gift over five years. Spreading payments over a
five-year period permits a more substantial donation. Contributions may be cash
or stock.
Who will know how much I pledge?
Only those campaign leaders and staff members
responsible for maintaining Olam Tikvah's financial records will know the terms
and amount of your pledge, unless you choose to let the amount of your pledge be
communicated to other synagogue families as an example to motivate the giving of
others. When donors are acknowledged through the gift recognition program, each
contributor will be privately consulted, and those who wish to remain anonymous
may do so.
How will I be recognized?
There are naming opportunities for gifts over
$36,000. The "Chai Circle" recognizes donors who have pledged $18,000 to
$36,000.
