Thank you to all the parents who came and helped out at our second grade Havdalah program. We had lots of fun! Especially when Morah Nechama spilled a pan of water all over her skirt!

We created braided Havdalah candles, besamim spices, practiced the brachot, glued, colored, painted, had Music and ate about 15 brownies each (some oranges too)! It was nice seeing everyone participate in our Havdalah ceremony together! Todah!

I hope you will use your new Havdalah set at home on Saturday nights with your family. It is a beautiful way to end Shabbat and a beautiful way to start a new week.

Also, please mark your calendars for an OTRS Yom HaAutzmaut celebration on Tuesday, May 6 at 5:00 when Shlock Rock will come to perform live in Northern Virginia!! The concert is during the last hour of Hebrew School, but all are welcome to join us!! (There will be an optional dinner after – watch for further details).

See the pictures of the Mishkan we built (The traveling synagogue that the Jewish people carried with them in the desert that housed the 10 Commandments.)! It is awesome! Thank you to all the parents who contributed items! (“…as much as your heart tells you to give”). If you still would like to help, please feel free to make a donation to the Religious School in honor of our Mishkan!

We have worked in diligently chevrutah (friendly groups) on Birkat HaShachar (the morning blessings) from Sunday. Feel free to practice at home!!! Mrs. Gorman recently came to our class and told us a story, too.

In addition, we have been working on a Shemot (the second book of the Torah also known as Exodus) comic strip. The children were all assigned a parsha (chapter in the Torah) to illustrate and write about. They are working so hard! It will be available to look at during the Havdalah program on 3/30, as will our Mishkan. While we were creating, we listened to some cool Jewish music.

Second graders worked very hard (below) on their projects covering Jewish history in Eretz Yisrael for their Israel Museum exhibit. They did a great job!

We also learned about Israel by making cookie maps with OTRS Israel Specialist Michelle Pearlstein:
