5772 High Holy Days 2011

plus Sukkot and Simchat Torah

Jewels of Elul 7

Elul, the month preceding the High Holy Days, is traditionally set aside for reflection. Now in its 7th year of publication, Jewels of Elul is a collection of stories, musings and anecdotes. On each of the 29 days of Elul, the Jewels of Elul web site will post an inspirational 'Jewel' from an amazing group of individuals. We hope you will join us in reflecting, and in sharing the inspiration.

Services

  • The services for the first day of Rosh Hashanah and for Yom Kippur will begin at 9:00am in the sanctuary and 10:00am in the social hall, both ending at approximately the same time.

  • Rabbi Kalender and Rabbi Paskind will teach at both of the services throughout the morning. Please choose which service you would like to attend.

  • There will be only one service, held in the sanctuary, on the second day of Rosh Hashanah.

  • There will be several children’s services for ages pre-school through sixth grade throughout the holidays.

  • Tickets will be mailed in early September. They will not designate service locations.

  • We continue to use the JCCNV parking lot for extra space.  Buses will run continuously throughout services between the JCCNV and OT.

S'lichot, Saturday, September 24

Program, 8:45pm. Join us when we gather to watch The Shawshank Redemption, a 1994 film starring Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman. Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur are holidays immersed in dreams, thoughts and feelings of friendship, survival, honesty, patience and responsibility, and The Shawshank Redemption touches each of these elements of life, focusing on freedom and liberating power of hope. After a lively discussion, we’ll enjoy dessert together, followed by dedicating the plaques that were placed on our Memorial Board over the past year. Memorial plaques will be dedicated at 11:30pm.

Service, approximately 12:00midnight. The S'lichot service will last one hour.
