We sponsor three Conservative movement youth groups: Machar (grades 4 and 5), Kadima (grades 6-8) and USY (grades 9-12).  OT also sponsors a Brownie Girl Scout troop and a Cub Scout troop.

Join a youth group simply by turning in the Permission and Emergency Form (one per child, please).

Sign up for the Youth Activities Listserv to stay informed about all the exciting youth events at Olam Tikvah.  Send your e-mail address to jstryer@olamtikvah.org.

Machar (Grades 4 and 5)

Machar means "tomorrow" but it's a great place to meet new friends today. We have social activities from bowling to ice skating to seeing a show. Join us for community service projects, arts and crafts, or a youth Shabbat. Machar Advisor: Sarah Fort.

Machar Events

Watch for details about these fun-filled Sunday afternoon events:

April 13: Machar Meets Adas, 12:00pm-4:30pm. We’re going to have a great field trip to Washington, DC to visit the Machar chapter at Adas Israel! It’s going to be awesome playing games with other Macharniks! We’ll have a quick lunch at Olam Tikvah before heading over to the Vienna/Fairfax Metro Station. We'll return to OT about 4:30 via Metro.  Bring: a dairy/parve bag lunch and $5 for metro fare. Please leave iPods, mp3 players, and the like at home. Parents are needed to drive to/from the Metro and to chaperone on the trip. RSVP by Tuesday, April 8, and mention if you can chaperone in your response. E-mail Sarah at sr_fort@yahoo.com to RSVP or for more info.

May 18: Tanakh Zoo Scavenger Hunt.

Kadima (Grades 6 through 8)

Kadima means "forward." It's where you get to hang with your OT friends outside the confines of the classroom and even make friends from other synagogues in the area. Every year with Kadima is amazing. Participate in a mitzvah day project to help area shelters or a fantastic overnight with cosmic bowling and laser tag. Our fun activities are all planned by the Kadima board, made up of kids just like you! You can also participate in a Kadima Kallah, a weekend away for just you and your friends--no parents. A little Jewish learning, a little eating and praying, and loads of fun! Kadima Advisor: Sarah Fort.

Kadima Events

J-Serve: National Day of Jewish Teen Service: Make a Difference DC. Sunday, April 13, 12:30pm-6:00pm. Help clean up the Anacostia Watershed during a day of national service for Jewish teens in grades 7-12. There is no charge for the event. Buses leave from  the JCCNV at 12:30pm, and return to the JCCNV at 6:00pm, rain or shine. Dress appropriately-clothes will get dirty! Snacks will be provided, but teens are asked to bring a water bottle. (There will be plenty of water for refills.) The event takes place at the Anacostia Watershed, which is a National Park, and will be supervised by J-Serve and the Earth Conservation Corps. It is a great opportunity for our teens to socialize with Jewish teens from all over Maryland, DC and Virginia. There is even a short boat ride (5 to 10 minutes) from the parking area to the site. Register online at www.jservedc.eventbrite.com, and choose Olam Tikvah for your group.

USY (Grades 9 through 12)

USY is where teens get to run the show. Plan your own social activities or organize a Tikkun Olam fundraising event. Join teens from other synagogues and regions for Shabbatons, conventions, dances, and summer programs. In USY, you can be the leader.

Welcome to the 5768 OTUSY board members: Racheli Schoenberg, Lauren Rosenthal, Shana Finkel, Ali Kraft, Hannah Roth, Anna Solomon, and Melissa Leviton. USY Advisor, Aviva Perlman.
