Melissa Schwartz is very excited to join the Olam Tikvah family! Melissa grew up outside Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where her parents and grandparents were active members of the Conservative synagogue. Melissa is a proud alum of Camp Ramah in the Poconos and HaGesher USY. While living in Philadelphia, Melissa worked in many areas of the Jewish Community – camp counselor, Hebrew School teacher, and service leader. After graduating Penn State University with a degree in Elementary Education, Melissa began her career as a Jewish communal professional. Starting as a chapter advisor, she began working for BBYO Philadelphia Region. While working for BBYO, Melissa held the position of Program Assistant, Assistant Director, and Senior Regional Director. “It was a wonderful opportunity to work with teens and help them develop their leadership skills and a positive Jewish identity”.
After working for BBYO, Melissa moved to Rockville, Maryland to begin her career as the Youth Director at B’nai Israel Congregation. While at B’nai Israel, Melissa wore many hats – Upper School Coordinator, Junior Congregation leader, and High Holiday Youth Coordinator. One of her favorite roles was working in the Schilit Preschool as “Morah Melissa” teaching the children about Israel and Israeli dances.
In her spare time, Melissa likes to read, travel, and cheer for the Philadelphia Eagles. She and her husband David live in Fredericksburg, Virginia where she is the proud stepmom to Aaron, Allison, Ashlyn, and Aidan. Their loud, noisy, loving home also includes their two loud, crazy dogs.
