Fortunately, the Jewish people do not shy away from asking questions! Many thousands of questions and rabbinic responses have been recorded in a genre of legal material called responsa literature (in Hebrew literally "questions and answers"). In our four sessions together, we will look at these correspondences that span over a millennium, uncovering not only creative legal thinking, but also fascinating historical circumstances.
