Rabbi Vernon Kurtz — The Holiday of Sukkot: A Particularistic and Universalistic Message
Sukkot is known as the Festival par excellence on the Jewish calendar. Its messages convey the essence of Judaism as it is lived in our everyday world. In this class, we will examine what seems to be a conflict between a particularistic and universalistic message of Judaism. We will see how this conflict if it exists, is exhibited in the philosophy and rituals of the holiday setting the scene for everyday Jewish life.
