Invasive Species Cleanup
Sunday, March 3, 2024 • 23 Adar I 5784
9:30 AM - 11:30 AM3730 Glenbrook RoadVolunteer to remove invasive species at Olam Tikvah's parsonage. We will cut invasive vines off of trees along the edge of the yard. Some of the vines are quite thick. We will also pull invasive weeds from the ground or dig them out if the roots are long. We will be working on the right-hand edge of the property in three designated areas. Students who need service hours can bring forms to sign or email Gary after the event to get credit.
Dates
Sunday, March 3 from 9:30-11:30am
-A great opportunity for parents of OTRS students, teens, and anyone looking to help our local ecosystem.
Sunday, March 10 from 12:30-2:30pm
-A great opportunity for teens, parents dropping their kids off at the Machar Puppy Party, and anyone looking to help our local ecosystem.
Who
People in good health and 16+ years old. Volunteers aged 11-15 years must be accompanied by a parent (parents should also plan to volunteer). Students who want Civic Service Hours are welcome; bring forms or email Gary Krauss to get service hour credit.
What to Bring
- Dress for the weather and working in woods. VERY IMPORTANT: Wear long pants, long-sleeved shirt and sturdy shoes or boots. Regardless of the temperature, shorts are not acceptable. Be ready for working among briars and thorns.
- Bring water in a reusable container.
- Work gloves are advised, but we'll have some extras.
- If you have clippers of any size, garden shovels, and brush saws, please bring them.
- It is recommended that volunteers get a bottle of Tecnu and have it at home to wash off any poison ivy oils. It works great to remove the oils before a rash sets in. The poison ivy is easily avoided and Gary Krauss will point out any poison ivy plants in the work area to volunteers. Tecnu is a precaution.
Parking
We will be volunteering at the parsonage where Rabbi Bedo lives. Please park in the Olam Tikvah parking lot and then walk next door to the Bedo-Fisher home, 3730 Glenbrook Road.
RSVP
Email Gary Krauss. Workdays are a “go” rain or shine; delayed or canceled if there is lightning.
