Men's Club Better Angels Workshop
Sunday, February 24, 2019 • 19 Adar I 5779
9:40 AM - 12:00 AMThere's a lot of stress these days among family members, friends and co-workers who are divided politically. We listen to public debates that fuel our anger and label those who disagree as enemies. Yet Jewish tradition provides a model of civilized discourse, respecting the other side even when disagreeing as exemplified by the Talmud recording Shammai’s losing views in debates with Hillel.
OT Men’s Club invites you!
Join us for a Better Angels* workshop to learn skills for having respectful conversations that clarify differences, search for common ground, and affirm the importance of our fellow relationships. We will provide a light breakfast.
How does it work?
A trained moderator will give a short presentation. You will then have an opportunity to practice conversation skills on current political issues through roleplaying, learning how to set a constructive tone and handle difficult moments.
Who can come?
Anyone interested in having better conversations with people on the other side of the political divide. This event is open to the public and we encourage OT members to invite friends and neighbors to the event.
RSVP By February 17 at bit.ly/OTMCBetterAngels.
*Better Angels was launched in 2016 and is a bipartisan citizen’s movement to unify our divided nation. By bringing red and blue Americans together into a working alliance, we’re building new ways to talk to one another, participate together in public life, and influence the direction of the nation. Instead of asking people to change their minds about issues, we give Americans a chance to better understand each other, to absorb the values and experiences that inform our political philosophies, and to ultimately recognize our common humanity. The group’s name comes from a speech by Abraham Lincoln in which he appealed to “…the better angels of our nature.” Check out www.better-angels.org
