Shabbat Service

Saturday, June 1, 2024 24 Iyyar 5784

9:30 AM - 12:00 PMSanctuary & Livestream

Shabbat mornings offer a wealth of worship and learning opportunities for all ages. This Shabbat, we celebrate 3rd grade Kabbalat Siddur and our Confirmation students.

About Shabbat Morning

We hold one congregational service, beginning at 9:30am. Men and women of all ages - from age 13 through grandparents - lead portions of the service, receive aliyot, and read Torah. It's not unusual for younger children, below b'nei mitzvah age, to lead the chanting of specific prayers. Youth childcare and services begin in our youth wing at 10:00am for ages 18 months-6th grade. The congregation always enjoys lunch together following the service.

About Kabbalat Siddur

At Olam Tikvah, we honor our 3rd grade students with a ceremony called Kabbalat Siddur. During the Shabbat morning service, each student receives their own copy of Siddur Sim Shalom, the blue prayer book we use at Olam Tikvah. This is the siddur they'll use throughout their time at Olam Tikvah and into their adult Jewish lives. Family participation and the presence of the entire community make the ceremony a significant and memorable occasion.

About Confirmation

We will honor our 10th grade confirmation students as they complete their time as students in OTRS. This particular Confirmation class has the distinction of having become Bar/Bat Mitzvah during the early months of the pandemic. For many of them, that meant a very different Shabbat morning than they expected and we want to take the opportunity of their confirmation to give them the experience of standing on the bima on Shabbat morning, surrounded by the larger OT community. Our kiddush lunch after the service is sponsored by the Confirmation class families.
