"Postcards from the Old Country" with Julie Silberger

A box of 50 old photos from her late mother’s attic was the catalyst for Julie Silberger to immerse herself in genealogy research. She spent a year and a half identifying the photos and the stories behind them, and translating notes written to her maternal great-grandmothers in six languages. The result is a photo book produced for her daughters, siblings, and relatives that combines family account, historical narrative, and vignettes of Jewish life from 1880-1950. Julie will share some of the approaches and sources that she used to discover her ancestors’ history; and what she learned about life in the Old Country.
