Slichot Service and Program

Saturday, September 13, 2025 20 Elul 5785

8:15 PM - 10:00 PMSocial Hall

Slichot is a prayer service composed of various psalms and poems said each night leading up to Rosh Hashanah. Unlike all other prayer services we have, Slichot has no fixed liturgy; it is an inspirational and aspirational way to begin the High Holiday season. The words of the individual psalms and poems are fixed, but the choice of which to include in the liturgy, in each service, is unique, depending on the day, the year, and the community. It is symbolic of how we should approach teshuvah (repentance) every year.

Our Slichot program will be held on Saturday, September 13, at 8:15pm. This year, as part of our year-long People of the Book program, we will look at excerpts from five books written by the authors visiting us throughout 5786. Our discussion will center around the themes of the holidays--reflection on the past, hopes for the future, an accounting of our lives, and the idea of repentance and forgiveness. For more about the People of the Book program, including a look at the five books we'll be reading excerpts from, click here.

The Slichot service will follow the discussion at approximately 9:30pm.
