Canceled: Tashlich & Reverse Tashlich
Sunday, October 2, 2022 • 7 Tishrei 5783
9:00 AM - 1:00 PMLakeside Park, 5216 Pommeroy Dr, Fairfax, VA 22032Unfortunately, with the remnants of Hurricane Ian heading our way this weekend, we have to cancel our planned Tashlich and Reverse Tashlich meeting at Lakeside Park this Sunday, October 2.
Please join us instead this Sunday at OT at 9:00am for Shacharit - start the New Year off by coming to minyan! It's also a great opportunity to drop off your donations for ECHO.
In lieu of our Reverse Tashlich Waterfront Cleanup, we invite you to learn more about the organization, Repair the Sea and their modern take on the ritual of Tashlich.
How to do Tashlich at Home
Tashlich may be performed at any point between the second day of Rosh Hashanah through the end of Sukkot at Hoshanah Rabbah on Sunday morning, October 16. You can perform the ritual of Tashlich at any stream or body of water.
First, we recite some verses, which you can download here. Tashlich means "to cast away" and the ritual verses remind us of the power of teshuvah and God's forgiveness as we ask for forgiveness this season.
After reciting these verses, we symbolically cast away our sins into the water. While one traditionally tosses bread into the water, we encourage you to use eco-friendly items, such as mulch or pebbles.
Register
Due to the remnants of Hurricane Ian expected to hit our area this weekend, the Reverse Tashlich Waterfront Cleanup has been cancelled.
