Tikkun Leil Shavuot

8:30 PM - 11:55 PMOlam TikvahIn celebration of Shavuot, we look forward to coming together to study Torah at our Tikkun Leil Shavuot evening of study on Saturday, June 4, beginning at 8:30pm.
The night will feature four rounds of study sessions, so that you will have the opportunity to learn from four of our eight teachers throughout the night. We will also daven Ma'ariv and enjoy a cheesecake break. Each class will be 30 minutes long. We look forward to learning from:
- Rabbi Josh Ackerman is hospice chaplain with Jewish Social Service Agency (JSSA) with an interest in integrating environmental study and ethics with Judaism.
- Rabbi Viki Bedo loves drama.
- Debra Beland Ackerman loves knowing everybody's name.
- Lisa Friedman uses her backgrounds in literary studies and psychology to facilitate deeper understandings of Jewish texts.
- Mala Hod, Olam Tikvah's shlicha (Israeli emissary), has worked in educational youth movements doing environmental Jewish education through farming.
- Rabbi David Kalender loves Israel.
- Teddy Klaus, former Music Director at Temple Micah, delights in transmitting our Jewish musical heritage.
- Aviva Walls is the Head of School of Gesher Jewish Day School and often sees the world through her background of Leadership and Change Management as well as whatever article or podcast she recently read/listened to.
Class topics will include:
- A Timeline of How Popular Music Has Influenced the Melodies of Prayer or How the Viennese Waltz Became the Shema
- Bibliodrama: Acting Out the Torah
- Contemporary Observance of Shabbat: How to Refrain from Threshing in our Time
- Hatikvah: Our National Song
- Leadership Lessons from Naomi and Ruth
- Shmita in Israeli Society
- The Hero’s Journey in the Tanakh
- What’s in a Name? Changing Your Name in the Jewish Tradition
