Welcome to Congregation Olam Tikvah,
"World of Hope," in the heart of Jewish Fairfax. We look forward to
seeing you at services, a youth event, Sisterhood, Men's Club, adult
study, or one of our many other activities.
Have you ever wanted to try studying a page of Talmud? Ever wondered what the Kabbalah is really about? Interested in reading steamy love poetry
written by the great medieval Spanish rabbis? If so, this course is for you! Each week will be devoted to a different type of rabbinic text, from Talmudic debates to
modern poetic reveries. Continued.
Adult B'nai Mitzvah Class
Dates and times TBD
Rabbi Kalender and Rabbi Shalva would like to hear from any
adult OT members interested in forming an adult B’nai Mitzvah class.
Participants will gather as a group to learn synagogue and Torah
reading skills. The class will culminate in a group B’nai Mitzvah
ceremony and celebration during our Shabbat morning prayer service.
If interested, please contact Priscilla Collier,
pcollier@olamtikvah.org.
Continue Adult Education over the Summer
We have spent an exciting year in study, reflection and conversation. Since last summer, our congregation has enjoyed Mishnah, Talmud and Halachah
classes, as well as ongoing opportunities to study Hebrew and practice Jewish
meditation.
Over the next six weeks, some of us will take Rabbi Shalva’s Summer Sampler course, while others journey to Israel or engage in other Jewish experiences. In September 2009, we will publish Volume 6, Number 1 of
Olam Tikvateinu. As the August 3 submission date approaches, I would like to invite each of you to contribute to our ongoing conversation about Jewish themes.
You may write about any topic suggested to you by any of the year’s educational experiences. Alternatively, you may respond to the prompt
suggested on our Publications page.
Please contact
me or
Rabbi Shalva about the idea you would like to develop and share.
Essays should be at minimum 300-600 words, (1-2 pages). The optional upper length limit is 1500-2000 words (6-8 pages).

moves toward the future with a new social hall and other enhancements.
See a 1-minute video of the architect's rendering of our new entrance to the sanctuary and social hall.
Our Building Renovation
page also has some FAQs and answers about the planned construction.
