Riverbend Park is one of the prettiest parks in Northern Virginia. It's on the Potomac River, just upstream from Great Falls National Park. Riverbend has diverse habitats that afford the chance to enjoy nature in all seasons. Summer visitors enjoy ruby-throated hummingbirds zipping around trumpet creeper.

There is no charge to attend and no entrance fee to the park. Register below to help us plan the day more comfortably and efficiently.

  • Come enjoy the spectacular views and great company!
  • We are offering an OPTIONAL, easy hike to Great Falls Park to see The Falls, starting at about 10 am. This is a 3.5 mile roundtrip hike that takes about 45 minutes each way. We cannot repeat enough the importance of bringing plenty of water, a protective hat, sunscreen and insect/tick repellent.
  • For those not hiking (and for the hikers, when they return!) we will have access to a covered picnic area near the Potomac River, as well as the Visitor Center deck with chairs and tables, which also offer lovely views of the river. It’s an ideal place to schmooze and have a late breakfast, snack, or lunch. We are asking everyone to bring their own dairy or pareve food to the park, as well as plenty of water.
  • Restrooms are located on the Visitor Center deck.
  • The Visitor Center will open at noon on June 20. There is a wonderful exhibit inside about Native American life along the Potomac River. A naturalist is available to answer questions during open hours. A snack bar sells drinks, ice cream, and other refreshments. A small gift shop has nature books, nature items, maps, and souvenirs.
  • Riverbend is a superb place for birdwatching. A bird checklist compiled by staff, volunteers and local birders includes 191 species that have been observed in the park. Amphibians and reptiles, including salamanders, frogs, skinks, snakes, and turtles are abundant as well.
  • Boat rentals are available to arrange on your own. See information here: canoe, kayak and paddleboard
